Amazing places
to swim,
snorkel & dive

The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes.

Swim with whale sharks, rays, and turtles while snorkeling in the Maldives, or dive beneath the surface to find historic shipwrecks on Sri Lanka’s little-traveled East Coast. We’ve selected a few of the world’s top locations for swimming, snorkeling, and diving to serve as inspiration for your upcoming underwater excursion.

Kandolhu, Maldives | snorkelling & diving

One of our favorite places to stay in the Maldives is this little resort. The magnificent house reef at Kandolhu in the North Ari Atoll is awash in color, from rare corals to fish with rainbow markings. Put your goggles on for the possibility to witness turtles and rays in the shallow lagoon because of the island’s small size, which allows you to swim or snorkel around the entire island. The island’s very own safari yacht, the Ari Explorer, is available to take you on private diving excursions or on your own custom snorkeling route. On the yacht, you may also take part in a sunset cruise while sipping Champagne and watching for dolphins.

Full Day Maldives Adventure
Enjoy a day exploring a small part of the Maldives archipelago. We combine snorkel points with a local island tour, lunch, time relaxing on a sandbank and complete the day with a sunset cruise in search of dolphins. Your tour starts on a beautiful sandbank set in a blue lagoon approximately 45 minutes from the capital. Relax under the shade of a sun umbrella, swim in the warm waters or snorkel the house reef. An ideal location to learn to snorkel with your guide or refresh your skills. Between islands we offer the chance to snorkel, keep your eyes open for sea turtles, reef sharks, and rays the Maldives are home to. Cruising north we visit the island of Huraa offering firsthand information about local island life and time to take lunch. As the sun begins to set we will head to the east of Hulhumale to a channel where there is a high probability of encountering dolphins, there is never a guarentee of sightings but when we are lucky watch them jump and perform!

Outrigger Maafushivaru Maldives | whale sharks

Maafushivaru is in the South Ari Atoll in the Maldives, which is well-known for having year-round whale shark sightings. You can swim and snorkel alongside these gentle giants in the open ocean thanks to the island’s own whale shark excursions. The resort’s resident marine biologist will accompany you on the 60-minute cruise as you search for turtles, dolphins, and rays along the way in this memorable adventure. You might witness the natural phenomena of bioluminescent plankton shimmering on the moonlit water if you go to the beach at night.

Passikudah Bay, Sri Lanka | families & wreck diving

For some of the best underwater adventures in Sri Lanka, veer off the beaten path and head to the unspoiled East Coast. Whether you are a certified diver or a beginner, Passikudah Bay’s calm, shallow waters are ideal for diving and snorkeling. Passikudah Bay is safe, making it perfect for families traveling together because the kids may swim and snorkel without danger. Explore a vintage WWII tanker that sank in a Japanese air attack in 1942 by trying wreck diving. The months of May through October are ideal for visiting Passikudah because the weather is mild and there is less risk of rain, which reduces underwater visibility. We recommend staying at the luxurious Uga Bay. It has a striking setting with views over Passikudah Bay and rooms right on the beach.

Palm Island, The Grenadines | for swimming

With its pristine dunes, warm waters, and lush interior, Palm Island in the Grenadines is a tropical swimming jewel that is hard to resist. From here, you may board a boat to explore the Tobago Cays islands, which served as the backdrop for the Pirates of the Caribbean movie, and look for sea turtles in their electric-blue waters. The Palm to Union Island swim is essential if you have great swimming abilities. The views make up for the mile-long straight section’s length. Olympic swimmer Becky Adlington started her swimming school on Palm Island, and while she was here, she swam the Palm to Union length to highlight the healing effects of ocean swimming. We like the cozy Palm Island Resort and Spa for your stay. With sea-view rooms, rum tastings, starlit movie evenings, and “Zayaking,” a fascinating new method to snorkel without a mask, it has a very exclusive and upscale atmosphere.

Gaya Island, Malaysia | dives & conservation

In the protected Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park of Borneo, the island of Pulau Gaya is situated close off the coast of Kota Kinabalu. The five-star Gaya Island Resort offers an excellent guided snorkeling excursion on this island covered in vegetation that includes two snorkel spots and lunch on a nearby island. Additionally, a comprehensive list of PADI dive courses is available, ranging from basic trial dives to instruction in underwater photography. You can reach the resort’s outstanding marine center, which has been saving and rehabilitating threatened sea turtles since its opening in 2013, by taking a five-minute boat journey.
